A gate valve, also known as a sluice valve, is a valve that opens by raising a border (gate) out of the path of the fluid. When the gate valve is extended, the disk of the valve is separated from the flow. A sluice gate valve can also be used in wastewater treatment plants. The sluice gate valve is operated in process plants to control slurries. In operation, these valves are either fully spread or fully locked. The high flow speed in the partially open valve can generate disk and seat surface erosion and cause vibration and noise. Gate valves need very little space along the pipe axis and hardly restrict the flow of fluid when the gate is completely opened.
