A trunnion-mounted valve indicates that the ball is constrained by bearings and is only permitted to rotate; most of the hydraulic load is supported by the System controls, resulting in low bearing pressure and no post fatigue. A trunnion ball valve is a condition of a quarter-turn valve which uses a loose, perforated and limited/supported ball to control flow through it. The line pressure forces the upstream seat against the stationary ball so that the line pressure forces the upstream centre onto the ball, forcing it to seal. The mechanical anchoring of the ball grips the thrust from the line pressure, controlling excess variance between the ball and centres, so even at full-rated working pressure using, torque remains down. This is particularly useful when the ball valve is actuated because it reduces the size of the actuator and hence the general costs of the valve actuation package.

Trunnion Ball Valve - How They Work:
A trunnion valve is a machine that controls fluid flow in pipelines by controlling the shut-off cycle. It includes the elements required for allowing or disabling the flow of liquids through the pipe. It is made to integrate pipe or tube units to actualize this function. Trunnion ball valves are quarter-turn valves utilized to stop or create the flow of media in a pipe. The most common ball valve type has a “free-floating” design, so the trunnion type is a structural change. Within a trunnion ball valve, the ball links to the stem on one end and, on the other end, a post named the trunnion. Due to this formatting shift, the ball is held firmly in position. In a floating ball valve, the ball is only linked to the stem and is thus named floating.
Trunnion ball valves have many different advantages over free-floating valves. They are eligible for low, and high-pressure applications and suggest lower operating costs than free-floating ball valves
